The curriculum will include the basic requirements of Regents English 9 but will be advanced, accelerated, and differentiated. In essence, students will move more quickly through materials. Reading material will be richer and more complex. The curriculum will include an emphasis on high-level reasoning, the inquiry model of discussion, and opportunities for personal response through meaningful assignments and long-term projects. Students will have more opportunities to choose texts and approaches and will be more involved in evaluating their performance. Since expectations will be raised to allow for higher achievement, student grades will be weighted accordingly. If a student is having difficulty, he/she may be assigned to English 9.
