Senior Band

Recommended Grade Level: 9-12

Prerequisites: Instrumental lessons in grades 5-8 and/or director recommendation.

Requirements are the same for senior band as for junior band.

Junior Band

Recommended Grade Level: 7 & 8

Prerequisites: Instrumental lessons in grades 5 & 6 and/or director recommendation.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Requirements: 1) Attendance at rehearsals and weekly lesson 2) Attendance at all performances 3) Individual practice to prepare for concerts and lessons, and to provide for general improvements on one's instrument.

Aesthetic: Give the students an overall knowledge of music reading, instrumental performance practices, and music appreciation for enjoyment throughout life.

Technical: Through each student's specialization on a particular instrument they learn how to work with others, responsibility, and life-ling skills that are gained through the proficiency on individual instruments.

Senior Chorus

Senior Chorus Events

Prerequisites: Junior chorus and/or director recommendation

Credit Earned: 1/2

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The senior high chorus has a minimum of two major performances per year. Attendance at these concerts is mandatory, as performance constitutes forty percent of the grade. The rest of the grade is comprised of rehearsal attendance, effort and written assignments such as background information sheets and rehearsal evaluations. Students sing, listen to, and study music from a wide variety of styles, places and times. Elements of music are taught in relation to performance practice. Sight-singing and basic jazz improvisations are taught as part of the course. All senior chorus students who are not in band take voice lessons on a rotating basis; this is mandatory. Trips to competitions, performances, and concerts may also be included as part of the course.

Membership in chorus is a prerequisite for participation in All-County ensembles and NYSSMA auditions and ensembles.

Junior High Chorus

Recommended Grade Level: 7 & 8

Prerequisites: Elementary Chorus and/or director recommendation

Credit Earned: 1/2

Trips to competitions, performances, and concerts may also be included as part of the course. Membership in chorus is a prerequisite for participation in All-County ensembles and NYSSMA auditions and ensembles.

Dress for all concerts is school-appropriate black pants or skirts, and white shirts
